Hiring Process

Hiring Process

Here are the steps that each applicant follows to become an Ivy West tutor:

Initial Phone Interview

For all prospective tutors, the process begins with a short phone interview. We will gather relevant information about your background and qualifications and answer any questions that you have about the position. Based on this phone interview, we will assess how your skills fit with our needs in terms of subject area and geography. If we think that there might be a good match, we will call you to schedule an in-person interview.

In-Person Interview

The next step in the process is to come to our office for an in-person interview. The interview appointment usually lasts 2 to 2.5 hours and includes a meeting with a director to discuss the position in more detail, the interview is followed by an SAT practice test.

Training and Certification

After completing the interview process, selected applicants will be invited to attend paid tutor training sessions at our office. Training focuses on mastering the Ivy West, strategies and on developing the skills necessary to work with students of varying score levels. After attending group training sessions, prospective tutors meet one-on-one with an experienced Ivy West instructor to demonstrate their knowledge of the strategies. Once a prospective tutor successfully completes the Ivy West training program h/she is certified to work with Ivy West students.

Starting With Students

Once tutors have successfully completed training, they are ready to start working with students! The number of hours tutors can expect will depend, in part, on the number of students in their area and for which exam date the students are preparing.
